Tam Dao is a charming town with rich history and natural scenery. You can experience the French colonial atmosphere at the  Tam Dao Stone Church (Nhà thờ Tam Đảo) in the city center, which is brightly lit at night, a symbol of Tam Dao. You can also take a stunning photo in front of Château De Tamdao(the best shooting spot is Quán Gió Tam Đảo), Château De Tamdao is a magnificent castle that you can’t enter, but the exterior is already breathtaking. If you want to learn more about Tam Dao’s religious culture, you can climb up the highest hill and visit the princess temple Ba Chua Thuong Ngan, who is the daughter of the Jade Emperor and the guardian of Tam Dao’s forests. She is also said to have given birth to the 100th child of Vietnam. Finally, you must go to Cầu Mây Tam Đảo, where there is a bamboo-woven sky bridge that lets you enjoy the beauty of the whole plain, but be careful not to fall off. Before leaving, you can take a photo with the Tam Dao signboard in the city center, proving that you have been to Tam Dao. Tam Dao is a place worth exploring, where you can experience the diversity and charm of Vietnam.

Tam Dao is a small town, but you can see the lively lights at the foot of the distant mountain at night. However, before going up to Tam Dao , there are a few tips you need to know!

• Book your hotel in advance: Tam Dao has a small area and many locals like to travel up the mountain together, so it’s best to book your hotel in advance.
• To see the beautiful night view of Tam Dao, you should book a hotel at the yellow area(Look below picture), so you can look up the beautiful view at the Tam Dao. Good View in Tam Dao

 

• Ask for the price before any consumption: Whether it’s taking transportation or eating, it’s recommended to ask for the price before paying, otherwise you might be overcharged because of your foreign appearance.
• Motorcycles are the local transportation: Tam Dao is small, but the slope is very high, so there are many xe ôm (motorcycle taxis) that will ask tourists if they want a ride.

Tam Đảo ở đâu? How did we get to Tam Dao?

Every time I asked my Vietnamese colleagues where to have fun in Vietnam, they almost unanimously recommended Tam Dao, which made me very interested in it. However, the road up the mountain was not easy, and I heard that only taxis could reach it. Fortunately, this time Enzo was coming from Hanoi, so we arranged a taxi a week in advance to pick her up from the Hanoi Opera House, then pick me up from Vinh Yen, and go to the top of Tam Dao together.

 

There are only two ways to get down from Tam Dao, Taxi or Xe Ôm

Tam Dao has a very unique feature, which is that most of the accommodation options are HomeStay. I did some research and found out that HomeStay in Vietnam does not mean staying with a local family, but rather a type of accommodation that is suitable for the whole family. The rooms here are very spacious, some can even accommodate 10 people, and there will be many beds inside. Unfortunately, we only had two people this time, so we didn’t have the chance to experience HomeStay, so we chose 「 Khách sạn Hoàng Anh」as our hotel.

Khách sạn Hoàng Anh costs 756,000 Vietnam dollars per night, the room is not very big, but it is still cozy and has a nice view. Although we couldn’t see the lights of the plain from the window, we could still overlook a corner of  Tam Dao’s center. Hoàng Anh Hotel is also conveniently located, only 5 minutes walk from the city center, and not too noisy at night. The only drawback is that there is no hot water and air conditioning, which makes us a bit uncomfortable. Fortunately, Tam Dao’s night is cool, I even got up and turned off the fan.

Tam Dao is a mountainous area, and there are many beautiful scenic spots in the mountains. And where is the highest cafe in Tam Dao? It is DMB Coffee, overlooking the whole Tam Dao town, order a cup of coffee, sit down and enjoy the beautiful mountain view, spending a whole morning here does not feel wasteful. Oh! By the way! If there is no seat on the top floor, you can go to the lower floor, there are more seats below than on the top floor, and you won’t be sunburned.
